MENTHIKURA PAPPU / METHI DAL

METHI DAL / MENTHIKURA PAPPU... This is one of the healthy, tasty and nutritious dal. Most of the people doesn't like methi leaves, because they taste bitter. But this is one of the best leafy vegetable which is very rich in iron, vitamins and minerals. Addition of special tadka gives a very nice and tasty flavor to the dal.

Preparation time : 15 min
Cooking time : 15-20 min
Serves 3

INGREDIENTS
Half bunch methi leaves, cleaned and leaves seperated
1/2 glass turdal / kandipappu
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
salt as per taste
FOR THE TADKA 
2 tbsp oil
1/2 tsp jeera
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp hing
1 sprig curryleaves
4 green chillies, cut into slits
2 redchillies, broken into 1 inch pieces
5 garlic pods, peeled and crushed
1 medium onion, sliced
1 tomato, cut into small pieces

PREPARATION
  • Clean the methi bunch and seperate the leaves.
  • Cut vegetables and keep aside ( onion, tomato and greenchillies)
  • Clean the dal and keep aside.
COOKING METHOD 
  • Take a pressure cooker and add dal, methi leaves. Add 1 glass of water and pressure cook for 3-4 whistles. Keep it aside.
  • Take a kadai and add oil. Once the oil is heat add the ingredients FOR THE TADKA mentioned above one by one and let it cook. 
  • Once the tadka is fried, add this tadka to the dal and methi leaves mixture and mix well. 
  • Add salt, turmeric powder and mix well. On the stove and cook for another 2 mins.
  • Serve hot with piping hot rice with dash of ghee or pulka.
