DRUMSTICK PAPPU PULUSU



Today i prepared the very famous andhra special yummy DRUMSTICK PAPPU PULUSU.... This is one of my favourite recipe, sharing with you :)


Preparation time : 20 min
Cooking time: 30-40 min
Serves 3-4

INGREDIENTS


1/2 cup turdal/kandipappu (boiled)
lemon sized tamarind soaked in water
1 medium onion, sliced
1 large tomato, cut into cubes
2-3 drumsticks, about 2 inch pieces
4-5 green chillies, cut into slits
1-2 strips curryleaves
salt as per taste
1/4 tsp turmeric powder/ pasupu
3 tsp sambar masala
2 tbsp jaggery/bellam or sugar (u can adjust as per ur taste)
coriander leaves for garnish
FOR THE TADKA/POOPU
2 tbsp ghee/oil( tastes best with ghee)
1 tsp urad dal/ minapappu
1 tsp mustard seeds/ aavaalu
1/4 tsp hing
4-5 redchillies


METHOD OF PREPARATION
  • First boil the turdal/kandipappu with 1 cup of water and keep it aside.
  • Extract the tamarind juice from the pulp whick is soaked in water. it should not be too thick or too thin. Should be in medium consistency.
  • Take a cooking pan and add sufficient quantity of water so that the vegetables must be immersed completely. Add onion slices, tomato, drumsticks, green chillies and curryleaves and let them boil.
  • Once the vegetables are boiled add boiled dal/pappuand mix it completely. Let it boil for 5 mins.
  • Then add the tamarind extract and let it boil for 5 mins.
  • Add salt, turmeric powder, sambarmasala and let it boil for 10 min in a medium heat. If the mixture appears thick u can add water.
  • Add jaggery or sugar, mix and boil it for 5 mins.
  • In the meanwhile take a tadka pan and add 2 tbsp ghee/oil (i added ghee). When the pan heats add urad dal, mustard seeds, hing and redchillies. Let them cook. Take care the tadka should not be burnt.
  • Once the tadka is cooked add this to the boiling mixture. Let it cook for 5 mins and your yummy DRUMSTICK PAPPU PULUSU is ready.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with plain rice and papad.
