TOMATO RASAM


TOMATO RASAM.... There are many ways to prepare tomato rasam, today i am sharing with you simple and easy preparation of rasam with few ingredients... This is one of my favorite recipe learned from my mom,served with rice, or as side dish for idly too... The tempering and aroma of this dish fills completely in my home when i prepare this dish and makes my mouth water :) .. Prepare this and serve to your family... :)


Preparation time : 10 min
Cooking time : 20 min
Serves 2-3

INGREDIENTS

3 tomatoes, boiled and mashed
11/2 glass water
2-3 pieces tamarind
salt as per taste
1/4 tsp turmeric powder/ haldi
3 tsp rasam powder( i used mtr)
1-2 sprigs curry leaves
3-4 sprigs coriander leaves
2 tbsp jaggery
FOR THE TEMPERING
2 tbsp ghee/oil, goes best with ghee
1 tsp minapappu/ urad dal
1 tsp aavalu/ mustard seeds
1/4 tsp hing
 
 METHOD OF PREPARATION
  • First pressure cook tomatoes for 3-4 whistles. Remove the peel and mash them into puree.
  • Take a deep bottomed vessel and add the mashed tomato puree and water, u can add more water if u want more liquid consistency.
  • Add salt, turmeric powder, rasam powder, tamarind pieces and mix well.
  • Then add curry leaves, coriander leaves and jaggery and mix well. Let it boil for 15 min on medium heat.
  • In the meanwhile take a tadka pan and add ghee. Once heated add the rest of the ingredients FOR THE TADKA given above and fry them.
  • Add this to the boiling mixture, mix and let it boil for 5 minutes.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
TIPS 

U can avoid jaggery if u don't like the sweet flavor. U can add 2-3 chopped garlic pods if u love the flavor.
